On the contributor side, it’s satisfying to vent your frustration about your terrible department head or never-present CEO, knowing your review of the company is anonymous.
Additionally, the review could be seen as a form of defamation, which is illegal. If your employer does not agree with your review, it could lead to disciplinary action or even termination.
The reviews are public and other people, including your employer, may be able to see them. Reviewing your employer on Glassdoor can be risky because it could lead to negative repercussions from your employer. Sites like Glassdoor offer a rare, unfiltered view into salary levels, management, culture, and other things that the company’s external facing website and communications tend to obscure. Beyond everything, I was able to tell that my hiring manager would be an amazing lead, mentor, coach and someone who I would want to work with which really helped me when making my final decision.Unless you know someone at a company that’s hiring, it can be difficult to know what it’s actually like to work there. My hiring manager was extremely candid, warming, and throughout my interview, I gained a lot of context surrounding the org, their leadership and strategy. Everyone was enthused to discuss why they love GD, the perks, frequent company holidays, ERGs, and how nice and warming all of their peers are. For the first time in my interviewing experience, I didn't feel like I was the only one pitching myself throughout this process. Everyone truly embodied the company values. It was very nice to witness everyone's transparency about the company (+ future of the company), benefits, perks, and reasons why they really enjoy working at Glassdoor. Everyone was very warming, welcoming, and every encounter felt like a true conversation. What I enjoyed most was the conversational element and the transparency that everyone had. I had a conversation with Engineering Leads, Product Leads and even peers on the PgM team at Glassdoor. The recruiter was very transparent about the organization, compensation, benefits, and the interviewing process (feedback, loops required, debriefs, feedback I received post-debrief, etc.). We then discussed my background (current / prior projects & programs). From there, they provided me a background on the company, the role and what they were looking for. Interview A recruiter reached out to me and initiated the conversation / process via email.
